FROSTBITTEN
by Heather Beck
Enchanted Publishing
YA Paranormal
284 pages

Seventeen-year-old Anastasia Lockhart has never led an easy life, but when she starts getting into serious trouble, she’s sent to live with her grandparents in Cedar Falls. The small, picturesque town hasn’t changed since she visited four years ago, with one exception – the presence of a handsome, mysterious boy named Frost. Despite warnings from her grandparents and friends to stay away from Frost, Anastasia can’t deny their attraction, and the more time they spend together, the deeper in love they fall. Unfortunately, Frost has a secret that is beyond Anastasia’s wildest imagination, and she soon finds herself in the midst of a supernatural legend that has haunted Cedar Falls for years.

Can Anastasia and Frost’s love really overcome anything, or are their fates much darker?

MY TIDBITS

Placed in a landscape, which is beautiful but eerie at the same time, this story lures into a gripping world where the greatest monsters aren't those which go bump in the night.

Anastasia isn't good girl. Well, at least, anymore. She's sent off to her grandparents and into a new school, where her reputation proceeds her. All hopes of a new beginning are smashed as she comes head to head with bullies, mythology and a very enticing love interest.

It took me a few pages to get into this book, but once I did, it was a lovely read. Anastasia is a bundle of self-doubt, although she packs an attitude at times. But this is nothing in compared to the girls she runs into at her new high school. Their down-right nastiness wins over complete sympathy for Anastasia, making up for any corners she might have. In general, the characters miss a little depth, but when Frost pounces in, he radiates with politeness, creating a wonderful counter to the others.

The setting is perfectly chosen--beautiful, natural, yet carrying a nice touch of creepiness. The mythological elements mold into a well layered weave of darkness and mystery, making a great mix.

Summed up, this is a nice read for young fans of paranormal, which is sure to capture the attention until the early hours of the morning.
