It’s a child’s toy—what could go wrong?

While playing with a spirit board, two sorority sisters summon the vindictive spirits of three women brutally murdered by a psychopath. Join Logan, Kacie, and the rest of the Orion Circle as they delve into the disturbing events of the past to find the key to freeing the spirits.
But this isn’t any ordinary haunting.  These ghosts were banished before, and now they have returned more powerful than anyone could have imagined. Anger breeds hatred and hatred leads to darkness—these phantoms are on the verge of losing their last spark of humanity and becoming completely lost to the shadows.
Can Logan and Kacie convince the tortured souls to embrace the light and move on, or will the spirits succumb to the hypnotic pull of evil, leading to an eternity of torment and suffering?

I read the first book, TORTURED SOULS, a little while back and found this second book in the series not only a nice continuation but even better than the first.

When I picked this up, my memories of what happened in book one were shady at best (the first book came out in 2014, so it's been awhile). Still, I had no trouble diving into this book and didn't feel like there were many gaping holes in the background which needed to be filled to understand what was going on. In other words, this can be read as a stand alone.

The Orion Circle is a group of paranormal hunters whose members each of psychic powers. Kacie, the main character, has embraced her powers...after book one...and has settled in nicely. She's ready to take on anything even if it scares her and realizes how important it is to count on her friends. Her character is down to earth, easy to like and fun to cheer for. The only tiny thing which left me a little hanging was that I was never sure how far her powers went or exactly what they were. But this is probably one of those holes left over from not remembering everything in book one.

The other main character, Logan, is Kacie's boyfriend. He's a sweet guy who also is ready to take things on. Like Kacie, he's fairly level headed, and although he can charge into things, he usually doesn't do so without some sort of plan. Together, the two make a cute couple whose romance has ups and downs without going over the top. It's enjoyable.

Fast-paced is a great word for this book. There's never a boring moment, and the heroes definitely have their hands full. I loved the ghosts. Not only are they pretty vicious (which really jacks up the tension), but each has their own background story. Danger always mounted, and it was never clear how the Orion Circle would deal with the problem. . .or if they could deal with it. Some things were a little unbelievable, but nothing which ruined the story (it is fantasy). There was an 'issue' between Kacie and Logan early on which didn't work for me; Logan's reaction was a bit too extreme for me to swallow. And although this moment was somewhat used later in the plot, it was more of  a weak spot for me. Still, I read this in one setting, enjoyed it completely and am looking forward to seeing more of these characters.

Summed up, this is a story YA paranormal fans will enjoy. It's a pretty fast ride and tense enough not to let go until one hits that last page. The characters are addicting, and with the promise of many more fun stories to come, I'd say this is a series one shouldn't overlook.
