SNEAK PEEK

The bus snaked its way through the country roads and then
to the lavish development that backed up to the woods behind
his house. Upperclassmen from this neighborhood had their
own cars. This bus collected the underclassmen: those few
who weren’t chauffeured to school, as minions of the privileged.
Jake leaned back in his seat and folded his arms across his
chest, not looking at the kids coming down the aisle. None
dared to ask if they could sit in the empty space next to him.
They’d sit three to a seat rather than make that request. Just the
way he wanted it.
The over-filled bus pulled to a stop midway down Belmont Circle.
New stop? Jake looked out his window at the estate with a circular
drive. Huh. It finally sold. He watched as a single figure headed
toward the bus. What, so now they get door-to-door service? He
rolled his eyes.
Seconds later, she stood in the aisle waiting. From his seat, his
eyes skimmed up passed her faded jeans and plain, loose
sweater, and his breath caught in his throat. Her long blond
hair was pulled to the side in a loose braid. Her face? Ethereal.
But then, his flustered gaze became an annoyed glare.
Her bleak gray eyes seemed to look right through him before
they darted to the space next to him. Did she even register
his indignation? She must have. Yet, she stood there in the aisle
twisting the loose adjustment strap on her backpack tightly
around her fingers.
“May I sit here?” her meek voice broke the silence that had
fallen around them.
Noticing the hush of conversation, Jake’s eyes skimmed the
crowded bus. There was no doubt he and this new girl had an
audience. Not something he relished.
His eyes swept back to her. He could tell she was nervous. He
heard it in her quavering voice and saw it in the way she avoided
his eyes. He could just say no. But so long as she was standing,
the bus wouldn’t budge.

Jo Michaels is...
Hi, I'm Jo. Let's forget all the "Jo Michaels is blah, blah, blah" stuff and just go with it. I'm a voracious reader (often reading more than one book at a time), a writer, a book reviewer, a mom, a wife, and one of the EICs at INDIE Books Gone Wild. I have an almost photographic memory and tend to make people cringe at the number of details I can recall about them and/or their book(s). My imagination follows me around like a conjoined twin and causes me to space out pretty often or laugh out loud randomly in completely inappropriate situations.
I have a degree in graphic design, and my journey to the end was one few students who begin that program ever complete. However, this was one case where my memory and OCD tendencies helped me. Graduation was one of the most amazing days of my life. But, my most amazing day was when my now husband proposed. Every little girl dreams of being Cinderella someday, and he pulled off the proposal of fantasies.
At the risk of sounding cliché, I'm going to let it out there and say how much I absolutely adore the man I'm married to. Along with my children, he's my whole world.
I've lived in Louisiana, Tennessee, and Georgia, but I've had my feet in almost every state. Traveling is something I adore, and have plans to someday see the Mongolia I've written about in Yassa.
One of my favorite things is hearing from fans! You can find me on social media most any day of the week. Connect! I'd love to hear from you.

“What is with all this glittery stuff?” Evie’s frustration grew as she slapped at another rack of sparkly outfits.
“Duh. It’s nearly Christmas. Everything’s gonna have some kind of glitz happening.” Shana plopped on the couch and threw herself backward, draping her forearm over her face. “You’re killing me. It’s a good thing you’re my best friend, or I would’ve traded you in a long time ago.”
“Shut. Up.” Grabbing a scarf, Evie chucked it at her friend’s head. “You know you love me.”
A grin bloomed on her over-glossed lips. “I do, but that doesn’t mean you’re not being a brat right now. Why don’t we just go to the freaking swimsuit store? You know they’ll have something beachy.”
“Have you seen their prices?”
“Yeah, but it’s not like your family is hurting for cash. What does it matter?” She sat up and threw the scarf back on the rack. It hit the metal, paused for a second, and slowly slid to the floor.
Evie bent over to pick it up and hang it properly as she answered, “Ever wonder why we’re not destitute? My parents are super frugal.”
“You guys are the definition of yuppies.”
With a sigh, she shrugged and waved her hand. “Fine. Let’s go to the swimsuit store.”
They stopped off at the coffee shop for a couple of lattes on the way. One of the baristas took the girls’ orders, and they moved to the end of the counter to wait while he fixed their drinks.
“Girl, he was eying you hard,” Shana said.
Evie turned back to look at the guy again, and she couldn’t stop the quirk of her lip when she saw him glance up, turn red, and go back to what he was doing. He was cute in a boy-band kind of way. His blond hair curled at the ends and was just long enough to graze the tops of thick eyebrows over honey brown eyes. She turned away when he looked at her again, and she grinned at Shana.
“I told you so.”
“And?”
“He’s fine as hell. If you don’t get his number, I’m going to.” Putting her hand on her hip, she pursed her lips and widened her eyes.
“No, you’re not, and neither am I. We have stuff to do.”

Sneak Peek: A Tragic Miracle by Mindy Mather with Giveaway

A Tragic Miracle
by Mindy Mather
YA Romance

Lacey looked forward to the bright future ahead of her. She had just graduated high school and was about to start college along with her twin brother Joshua and all of their closest friends. Life couldn't be better. That is until the night she was brutally raped and left for dead. After surviving that tragic experience, Lacey feels broken, dirty, and unworthy of love, but she soon discovers that the attack has also left her pregnant. Now she must make the most difficult decision of her life, abort the pregnancy or keep her baby.

SNEAK PEEK

Lacey and Joanna waited for what seemed like hours before the doctor
called them in. She was stuck with a needle and had to pee in a cup so
they could take some basic tests and see if they could find anything wrong.
Lacey bravely acquiesced to the poking and prodding. Waiting was the
hard part. Joanna sat on a stool across from Lacey who sat on the
examination table still looking as if she would fall over at any moment.
“I hope I’m okay.” Lacey sighed, exhaling a slow breath as another wave
of nausea swept over her senses.
“I’m sure you’re fine, you’ve probably just got a bad case of food
poisoning, you have been eating a lot of junk from the campus café, who
knows how well they keep their food stored.” Joanna replied, trying to help
her not to worry so much.
The doctor walked in and washed her hands in the sink before she turned
and faced Lacey with a half-smile on her face.
“Hello ladies, I’m Doctor Hanson, I’m filling in for Doctor Gregorson today.”
She introduced herself. “Miss Tomlin, we’ve run some tests and everything
seems to be fine.” She said noticing the relief in Lacey’s eyes. “We did,
however, discover something.”
Lines of worry covered Lacey’s forehead.
“What is it Doctor? What do I have?”
“One of the tests came back positive.” Doctor Hanson paused briefly.
“You’re eight weeks pregnant.” She answered waiting for Lacey to
digest the news.
“What?” Lacey gasped in disbelief. “Pregnant? No, that can’t be right.” She
shook her head knowing that the test had to be wrong. “That isn’t possible,
are you sure Doctor Hanson? Because Doctor Gregorson said that I would
never be able to have children.”
“I’m sorry Miss Tomlin, but the test is not wrong, you are very pregnant.”
Doctor Hanson frowned at being questioned as if it were an insult.
“It has to be wrong Doctor Hanson! Lacey is a virgin…right Lacey?” Joanna
asked, looking at her friend for confirmation.
Lacey had worked so hard to block out the memory of that night that even
her friends had dismissed the possible consequences. Lacey was too stunned
to speak.
“Your file says that you were raped two months ago.” Doctor Hanson cut in,
violating the doctor patient confidentially code, but Lacey was too much in
shock to care. “I’m sorry, but you must have conceived during that
experience, if you haven’t had any other sexual experiences that is.” She
paused still observing Lacey’s silence. “And after being told that you wouldn’t
be able to have children…” She continued not seeming to take her patient’s
feelings into consideration. “I would think that this would be good news, I
understand considering the circumstances…”
“Just shut up already!” Lacey shouted and hopped down from the examination
table. “I don’t want to remember that horrible night!” She cried, running out
of the room without a backwards glance.
“Lacey! Wait! Please!” Joanna called after her as she followed her quickly leaving
the room. She caught up to her in the waiting area and went to her. Lacey broke
down as sobs fiercely shook her body and her breath caught in her gut.
“Lacey, I’m so sorry.” Joanna said embracing her. She held her friend as she cried.
“You never said you were raped, you acted as if nothing happened, but I thought
maybe…I didn’t want to believe it…”
Lacey pulled away and took a deep breath to calm herself even though tears ran
wildly down her face.
“Joanna…I couldn’t…I just…it was so…I can’t…” She tried to talk, but could
barely form the words. “I’m just so ashamed and…I’m going to have to tell
Dwayne now…” She said, shaking her head in disappointment. “He’ll hate me
forever and it’s all my fault.”

Sneak Peek

Prologue
2015.
Akriti was sitting at the cash counter of her mother’s little café going over the expenses for the day. Her headphones were plugged into her ears as she listened to songs on her phone. Her laptop was propelled open in front of her as she made notes on what else needed to be done the next day.
In the two years that she had been gone, the café had not changed at all. Her mother had kept all the renovations that Akriti and her colleagues had done two years ago. The only difference was that now there was a bulletin board next to the chalkboard menu that had been installed just a few weeks ago. On the bulletin board hung a poster that announced that next week’s Poetry Slam would start at 6PM sharp, and Suzanna needed to be contacted for early registration.
Akriti finished her work and shut down her laptop. She looked around the café in grim satisfaction and let out a happy little sigh. The music from her phone suddenly stopped playing. Glancing down she saw that her phone had started buzzing, flashing a number she had not seen on her phone in quite a while.
Debating for a minute, she received the call.
“Hi, Zayn.”

Airports have seen more sincere kisses than weddings it is said. As Zayn Banerjee waited to catch his flight back home, he witnessed one too many couples bidding each other teary eyed goodbyes. It was watching these strangers that he remembered how it had felt two years ago when he had left his home behind in pursuit of higher studies. How he had come to this alien land which had eventually led him to a lot of heartache and misery!
But there had been something good about those two years. There had been someone who had seen past all his imperfections and focused only on the good that was in him. Who had been his friend against all odds and yet, they had fallen out of touch with each other over the course of two years. He wondered if she was still using the same number. He wondered if she still had his number saved.
On an impulse, he pulled out his phone and dialed her number. She answered it on the third ring.
“Hi, Zayn.”
“Akriti.”
He was pleased as punch that she remembered him.
“Did you want something?”
“I am just calling to let you know that I’d be home soon.”
“Oh.”
“Oh? Honestly, I was hoping for a reaction better than oh.”
“Zayn, it’s really late here. Let’s talk when you’re in town?”
“I’ll do you one better. I’ll come see you.”
“Great. Safe flight.”
Then the line went dead. Zayn stared at the phone, wondering if their friendship was lost over the course of time. This wasn’t like the Akriti he remembered.
This wasn’t his Akriti at all.

Akriti hung up the phone feeling utterly drained. Once upon a time this was a source of her happiness but tonight he was a cause of her stress. The last thing she needed was for Zayn to come barging into her life once more.
She remembered all the memories that they had made together two years ago. The time when she’d finally felt okay to let her guard down and just be herself. It seemed to her like it was a lifetime ago. But he’d left. Like everyone else in her life and she had found herself consumed by her loneliness. Going off to business school had only made Akriti revert back to her old self.
That’s a lie they tell you, Akriti thought bitterly to herself, as she put her headphones back on and started listening to music again, time doesn’t heal a damn thing. It just burns the memories into your mind.

And here she is...
Aniesha Brahma knew she wanted to be a writer since she was six years old. Jaws of the Wolf is the exciting first novel in the epic Visigoth Chronicles series of YA adventures. If you like strong heroines, thrilling action, and rich historical detail, you’ll love Charlotte Jardine’s page-turning saga.

SNEAK PEEK

After the meeting broke up, Gelvira sat by the fire, mulling over everything she’d heard. The wood creaked as someone sat beside her. Their reiks’ son, Widin. She scowled. She wasn’t in the mood to talk to him. Not after the way he’d treated Pa.
“It must be a lot to take in,” Widin said. “Most of the men will be riding to war. Sorry, not to war. To rebuild old Roman fortifications.” His face darkened and he compressed his lips.
“Did you come to Erdeu to round up warriors in Lord Angmar’s name?” Gelvira asked.
He smiled. “Also to see you.”
She glanced around. Praise the Great Mother, Ma hadn’t heard. She’d be planning their wedding feast.
Widin motioned toward her amulet. “This is new. Did you make it?”
She nodded. “After the raid. I worked on it in the evenings, to take my mind off the Huns.” There was no way she’d tell him its purpose.
He traced the outline of the wolf. “I would have thought flowers or birds more appropriate for a maiden?”
A shiver ran through her. A wrongness. Then heat flared from the metal.
Widin snatched his hand back. “It … burnt me. Was it made using the Becoming One?”
“Yes,” she replied, head spinning with excitement. Had her amulet really done that?
He scowled. “Our people are under attack. You shouldn’t be wasting your time making baubles.”
“It’s a practice piece,” she replied, biting down on her anger. “Master Raginmar used it to teach me the rudiments of the Becoming One.”
“Ah, I see.” Widin’s black look faded. “You must make me something useful, once you’ve mastered the art. I’ll need the gods’ aid far more than you, safe behind your palisade.” He wound his fingers through hers and pulled them against his chest.
Ma noticed the gesture, and beamed.
“If it wasn’t for the Huns, I’d marry you before summer’s end,” he said, leaning close so his breath brushed her skin. “My father would prefer I took a wife who brings more political advantage. He doesn’t see it, but you’ve much in your favour: you’re well born, brave, and quite lovely to look at. And your jewellery will bring me renown, now you’re learning the Becoming One.”
“You honour me,” Gelvira replied, lowering her eyes so he couldn’t see her dismay. Marry him after the way he’d behaved? She couldn’t bear the thought. “As you said, you’re a warrior. You must deal with the raiders first. At times like these, marriage must wait.”
For one terrible moment, she felt almost grateful to the Huns.

And here she is...
