Did you know that some cats don’t have five fingers, but six? We’re not pulling your whiskers—it’s true! Whether you have your own pet at home or whether you just like these adorable little rascals—read our illustrated cat atlas, which will introduce you to the most interesting, lazy, cuddly, and wild cat breeds in the world, from the common European tabby to the silky-haired Persian cat and the unusual Lykoi. And don’t worry, that one over there isn’t a tiny werewolf—it just looks like one. And if you enjoy bedtime stories, don’t forget to cuddle up in bed and immerse yourself in the Meow News, a newspaper that comes with the atlas. It contains many stories, interviews, and news from around the world of renowned feline celebrities, as well as lesser-known cat heroes and heroines.

MY TIDBITS

Cat lovers are sure to get lost in these pages and discover all sorts of wonderful things about their favorite pets.

This book is an ode to cats. Not only does it highlight 25 different types of cats, give a couple tips on cat care, and deliver information about each type of cat, but these pages go further to create a rounded, dive into the joy of cats. The Table of Contents makes it easy to find each variety of cat, and this is good since these pages are so packed with information that this isn't the type of book to sit down and devour in one sitting. Each cat type is presented with its name at the very top of the page. Then, various aspects about the variety are given, special skills are mentioned, things to watch, what they are known for, the varieties within the type, and other fun information are presented. This happens in small paragraphs over the couple of pages, letting the information come across in digestible amounts. But what makes this book fun is that the information is delivered as if the cat were telling the reader about itself. This is by no means dry but allows cat-personality to flow in with humor and smiles. Readers will feel as if they are be spoken to by each cat.

While the various types of cats show their stuff, the 'Meow Meow' news pops in with a page or two before the next type of cat is presented. These 'articles' hold all sorts of cat tales from fiction, true events, and more. It's a little treat to see what type of article will come up next. This also creates a very relaxed read with so much more than just cat facts.

The text fits nicely to the middle grade range. While this is sold for slightly younger readers, the text is compact and plentiful. Readers who are very good at their word skills will enjoy picking it up, but I'd suggest this one more for the lower middle grade range, ages 7 to 10. The illustrations are informative and fun. They let the personalities of cats shine while also helping to illustrate the various facts mentioned.

This is a lovely book with tons for cat fans to explore and enjoy.
