Say Peekaboo! Chick's Easter Egg Hunt by Anne Forni

Since I've been taking a peek at Easter reads, I'm going to slide in another one today. This one is joins another book in a series, Say Peekaboo! I haven't visited the first book, which surround Valentine's Day, but from the cover, it appears to center around the bunny, too. I'm curious to see how this read flows and hope it holds tons of peekaboo fun.

Let's get ready for eggs, friends, and more, and see if these pages hold Easter joy!

MY TIDBITS

Egg searching fun joins friendship and a sly fox to create a read with a surprise on every page.

Bunny is on his way to hide eggs for Chick's Easter Egg hunt and stops all over the place to carefully place each one. Little does Bunny know that Fox is close behind and watches where each egg is hidden. Luckily, Bunny's friends, which Bunny meets along the way, notice Fox's antics.

This is a brightly illustrated book, which lets the joy of friendship shine. Bunny goes to great lengths to make an interesting Easter egg hunt for Chick. Bunny constantly runs into other animal friends, and the happiness at each greeting is obvious. Then, there's the fox, which gave me a bit of Dora the Explorer vibes as it tried to steal the eggs, one after the other. But this is sure to have listeners pointing out the clever fox in each of his hiding places and giggling when he's caught. The text flows smoothly and carries fun repetition to make it easy for even younger listeners to follow along.

As a peekaboo book, the common phrase and game is rolled into the pages as well. Each time a character, one of Bunny's friends, appears, 'Peekaboo!' flows large and bold into the tale. I assume listeners/readers are supposed to mimic this, at that moment, with a peekaboo themselves or, maybe, the person reading the book aloud pauses long enough to do the peekaboo movements. It's not really clear and leaves plenty of room for interpretation. I was expecting this aspect to be worked in a bit differently and explained, but  those, reading the book aloud to younger listeners, will need to decide for themselves how to best handle it. This also allows for a little more flexibility. Listeners will smile at the moment and the repetitive fun.
