Happy Sunday! Today's read fits perfectly and should offer some inspiration, especially for the younger readers out there. When the author contacted me (such a nice guy!), I was more than curious to take a peek. This isn't the only goodness involved, either. MY TIDBITS
A little boy is a bit anxious to go to sleep thanks to a storm outside. After offering some first comfort, the father sings a song with him, reminding the boy how God is always with him.
This is a straight forward book but holds tons of care and support. The characters come across very naturally, and even the dialogue slides by with finesse. The boy's fears are understandable, and the father's reaction holds comfort without taking any over-the-top tones. Most of the book centers around the song and it's three verses with a repeatable, short refrain. These verses highlight very familiar, day-to-day situations, which readers will easily recognize and connect with. The entire way through, the song reminds us that God is always there...even in seemingly mundane moments.
The text and vocabulary work especially well for the 4 to 8 age group. The illustrations are bright and offer familiar scenes. There's a nice mix of artwork with the lean toward realistic aspects on the characters to draw in. The song is a bit complex to completely sing along with, since each verse hits various moments in daily life, but the refrain is easy to join in on. This does make a lovely read aloud for group settings or a nice bedtime read.
Comfort and the secure reminder that we are always loved and cared for comes across well, and creates a wholesome atmosphere the entire way through.
