The cover grabs attention of especially young girls right away with the, at the moment, very popular sequin changing cover. Kept in white and gold, it gives off a quality impression and is something those girls who no long like pink are sure to enjoy.
This Bible holds the New King James Version, and those spots where significant differences were found form in the Greek New Testament are pointed out in the footnotes. The first page gives a chance for the giver to personalize the Bible followed by a short area for the owner to put in a small family tree. Then—and I found this especially nice—there's a short explanation concerning 'Why Should I Read the Bible?' which is written at a level for girls 9 and older, and attempts to make the Bible personal right away.
There are illustrated pages strewn within the Bible, which offer deeper thoughts and answers to questions like ' How Do I Pray?' or 'How Do I Know Jesus Loves Me?'. These are again written at the level of the intended audience, are short and followed by Bible verses, which can be referenced to.
Several 'helps' are also found within the pages. At the beginning, there's a timeline, which is illustrated and points out the more significant moments of the Bible. At the end, there is a list with the names of God used in the Bible, a quick list of Jesus' miracles, a list of the disciples, a list of kids in the Bible and several, nicely illustrated maps to help readers get a better idea of a few of the locations mentioned in the Bible.
The pages are, as always, thin and hold smaller print. There isn't any room for personal notes, which I find disappointing, but this isn't a study Bible in that sense. Rather, it's a Bible for girls to hold precious and enjoy reading or seeking out more about God.
My own daughter couldn't wait to get her hands on it because of the sequins, but has, since then, grabbed it up many times during the last weeks and read in it.
I received a copy from Booklookbloggers.com and find it to be a lovely Bible, many girls are sure to enjoy.

The blow shouldn’t have stunned me. I’d grown up in a tavern, defending myself, and had spent plenty of time training with Kane and Tem. I knew how to take a hit.
This was more than a hit. Kristoffe’s swing was fast and brutal, with a force behind it that rivaled my own—enough to knock me off my feet and send me flying down the hall.

He was spread-eagled, face down among his comrades, his fingers wrapped around a retinal scanner. I cringed. Was he dead? Had the tiger killed them all? Then my eyes fell on the laser resting at his hip. Take it.
I couldn’t. I’d never fired one before. He’ll kill us!
Not sure who she meant, I jerked my head around. The man with the sabre was still gone. But Kristoffe and his patrol were marching in my direction, dragging Toby with them. He struggled violently until one of them drove a fist into his stomach. A savage tug tore through my belly. Gasping, I leaned over, fumbling for the guard’s laser.
“I wouldn’t do that if I were you.” Kristoffe signaled for his men to stop, but continued walking toward me. He didn’t waver, not even when I grasped the laser in both hands and aimed it at him.
“That’s far enough,” I said.
He kept coming.
“I’ll shoot.” My finger instinctively hugged the trigger. “I mean it.”
Spreading his arms, Kristoffe made a target out of his broad chest. His smile was icy. “Go ahead, then. Shoot.”
Was he bluffing? I couldn’t tell. He might have a defensive shield. On the other hand, he might go down with one shot. There was no way to know. But somehow, he’d survived the tiger. This laser was my only hope. Do it, the tiger spat.
My pulse spiked. “I will shoot.”
He kept coming. Shoot him!
“Stop,” I cried, my hands shaking.
But he didn’t stop, and the closer he came, the harder I choked on the tiger’s fury. Her strength was more than I could handle. He was only a few feet away when her hissing cry forced me to pull the trigger. A matching cry left my lips. The laser clicked, shuddered—
—and died.

MY TIDBITS
Emotions coat these pages as a little girl and a little dragon turn loneliness into friendship.
Rosie watches the other kids play, but never partakes and sits on the sidelines. Rasmus is a sweet dragon but can't fly and sits alone too. One day, the two meet and find they might get along just fine. Soon, Rosie does what she can to help Rasmus. He doesn't have wings, but she's not going to let that stop him from chasing his dream.
This is a book with an overload of text but allows the illustrations to speak as much as the story. Rosie's loneliness stabs at the heart immediately. At first, I didn't know what to think...it will hit home hard for many kids, and Rosie, in her own way, seems not to try to integrate with the other kids either. Then comes Rasmus, and he's all alone as well. Sadness drips from these moments and will effect young readers. But...and this is where I must say I forgave the first pages...the two find each other, and a wonderful friendship begins. And more. There's caring, concern, and helping someone else to achieve a dream even when it means Rosie will be left alone again. (And no fears, this has a happy ending which left with a satisfied sigh)
The illustrations are calming, gentle and still bright and playful. The characters are extremely well portrayed, and the atmosphere is spot on. It's simply lovely to flip through the pages and enjoy.
